Audiologists who desire to be autonomous need to invest in their future. We can't sit on the sidelines thinking, “someone else will carry the load.” The best way to advance our profession is to stay current on legislative issues that impact our profession, contact our legislators when action is needed and contribute to ADA’s Political Action Committee, ADA-PAC. Staying informed and involved is the only way we, as a profession, may continue our progress as the managers of hearing and balance health care.

Important Advocacy Update

Although it is important for ADA to work with other audiology organizations to promote one unified voice for the profession, it is also important for ADA to investigate and question how the efforts or directions of other organizations will impact the practice of audiology. For example, early in 2010 the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA) announced comprehensive coverage of audiology services by Medicare, to include coverage of rehabilitative services, as a top priority on ASHA’s 2011 public policy agenda .

ADA has engaged in discussions about this with ASHA representatives and representatives of other organizations. The ADA Board and Advocacy Committee members have questions and concerns about this effort and its effect on the current direct access bill, as well as reimbursement levels for audiology services. pdf Please read the full update here.
